LightFair, North America’s largest architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference, recently announced it would transition to a biennial event. The every-other-year schedule will take effect following the upcoming 2023 show at the Javits Center in New York City from May 21- 25.
The majority of the industry has welcomed the schedule change. An EdisonReport survey showed that over 80% of respondents supported LightFair’s decision to move to an every-other-year event. EdisonReport interviewed industry experts about the change, including EarthTronics President Kevin Youngquist.
“For EarthTronics, this represents an opportunity to invest more in the success of LightFair. There was a very positive energy at LightFair 2022 Las Vegas. We found that attendees came to engage, listen, and learn. It also gave us an opportunity to listen closely to their product concerns and understand the challenges that they address in the marketplace. The difference being [with a gap between the 2020 show and 2022 show due to COVID] that in previous years attendees would almost expect what they were coming to see – not anticipating real change,” said Youngquist.
Youngquist finds the change benefits EarthTronics, other manufacturers, and LightFair. It allows manufacturers to invest more in their exhibits and product innovations, and the conference to invest in more activities and events, which offers participants a more worthwhile experience.
More Lighting Innovation
LightFair’s biennial conference and trade show schedule will allow attendees to continue to see the newest products during odd-numbered years on a frequency that aligns with every-other-year manufacturing cycles. Conference attendees can expect to see more innovative technologies, new products, and more thoughtful ideas with the added manufacturing development and production time between shows.
Additional Conference Features
LightFair has several additional features planned for the upcoming 2023 show and plans to continue to elevate the attendee experience with the biennial schedule. LightFair explains, “The 2023 LightFair Trade Show and Conference will focus on future-shaping innovations and an incredible attendee experience driven by new product discovery, networking, and on-floor education.” The additions for 2023 include the following:
- Immersive lighting installations.
- A re-imagined Design Pavilion that will be home to insightful panel discussions, town hall-style member meetings, and student events.
- A partnership with NYCxDesign to highlight the best lighting design in the city, including tours and a panel discussion.
- The IES Live stage will feature 3D light fixture printing, meet-ups with conference speakers, a Shark Tank-style competition, and special Q&A sessions.
- A robust conference program anchored around inclusivity and celebrating the multidisciplinary interconnections within lighting and beyond. Conference themes include Business, Process, Art, Science, and Technology.
Better Cohesion with Alternative Industry Shows
The new schedule will also reduce conflict with other important industry conferences and tradeshows. This includes Light + Building which will be held in Frankfurt, Germany, in August of 2024. Light industry manufacturers, electrical engineers, designers, and other attendees will also have the opportunity to attend and support regional and local shows in LightFair’s off years.
EarthTronics looks forward to seeing attendees at the May 2023 conference. The every-other-year schedule will enhance EarthTronic’s offering at the show. Said Youngquist, “The every-other-year schedule will also allow us the budget latitude to invest strategically in the attendees we would like to attract.” To learn more about LightFair and register to attend the conference, visit https://www.lightfair.com/new-york-2023.
