PMMA Substrate in Panel Lighting – and Why it Matters.

PMMA Substrate in Panel Lighting – and Why it Matters.

PMMA Substrate in Panel Lighting – and Why it Matters.

LED flat panel lights are helpful additions in commercial offices, schools, healthcare facilities, and many other commercial applications, but did you know that not all LED panels are created equal? While LED panel lights may look the same on the outside, there is a key manufacturing difference hidden between the layers of the fixture – the light guide plate.

The light guide plate is a sheet where a matrix of lines can be etched, dots can be printed, or a combination of both can be done. A light guide plate is meant to help transmit (or guide) the light outward in an even fashion.

PMMA  LED Panel Lights

We are here to let you know that all our LED panel lights are constructed using an aluminum frame with a PMMA light distribution panel (light guide plate). Why? Because PMMA is the optimal choice, and here are a few additional reasons why.

PMMA will never discolor or yellow.

Light guide plates made with PMMA have a high heat tolerance and resists UV light, meaning they never yellow. Plates made with polystyrene yellow very quickly – and unattractively. EarthTronics guarantees their lens against yellowing for the life of the product.

It’s more efficient.

PMMA has a 92% light transmittance, meaning more light is able to pass through, but it requires less power. That means you get higher lumens per watt and increased efficiency.

It’s long-lasting.

This material takes less power to achieve high efficiency, helping reduce the instance of overworked LED chips and eventual burn out.

Contractors, lighting installers and those knee deep in a new construction or retrofit projects don’t want to be called back in a few years (or months) because your light panels are turning yellow. And you don’t want to call them! Get it right the first time by ensuring your panels have been manufacturing using PMMA. As you are considering LED flat panel lighting, be informed and ask the manufacturer what is in the light guide plate. And if you’re researching online, if the lighting supplier doesn’t say exactly what they use, then they either don’t know, or it’s PS.

Always count on EarthTronics to provide you with high quality light distribution panels made with PMMA. We guarantee these panels will never discolor and provide you with long-lasting, evenly distributed light for years to come.
