A big impact on bottom line (Did we mention its practically free?)
Sometimes simple changes such as changing light bulbs can make a big impact on a company’s bottom line.
Located near the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and in close proximity to premier shopping, dining and entertainment, the GreenTree Inn & Suites, Phoenix Airport faces heavy competition in the booming Phoenix-area. In fact, there are nearly 40 hotels within the Phoenix-area.
The GreenTree Inn & Suites was built in 2007 and features 106-guest-rooms. The hotel was recently renovated in 2013 to provide spacious guest rooms with modern conveniences, including 42” HD flat screen TVs, microwaves and refrigerators and upgraded Wi-Fi capabilities. In addition to this, the hotel features an outdoor heated pool and spa, modern fitness center, meeting spaces, guest laundry facilities and handicapped accessible rooms.
“Improving our bottom line and improving hotel operations, while maintaining guest satisfaction and comfort is always a challenge,” said Bleu Petty, General Manager of GreenTree. “We are always looking for opportunities to improve our property without creating a negative impact to our guests.”
After investigating potential areas to reduce operational costs, the GreenTree Inn & Suites, Phoenix Airport team met with Don Bartelt, Senior Energy Advisor for Energy Efficiency Pros (EE Pros) a specialty LED lighting provider based in Scottsdale, Arizona. EE Pros focuses on providing products and solutions for high-lighting volume applications.
Easy Switch to LEDs and Energy Savings
Bartelt quickly assessed GreenTree’s lighting situation through a no-cost energy audit. The two key components to this audit is the savings report and multi-phase retrofit program. Bartelt was determined to work with the hotel’s existing operations to generate the fastest payback and most applicable use of current LED lighting technology. He found that the hotel was utilizing compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) in its common areas and hotel rooms. Although, the CFLs were energy star rated, they only had a six-month performance life, proving their lack of efficiency.
CFLs may be more efficient than incandescent bulbs, but they still lack the sustainability and efficiency that LED lamps have to offer. In effort to increase sustainability and efficiency efforts at GreenTree Inn & Suites, Phoenix Airport, Bartelt immediately considered our high quality LED offerings to provide an obtainable solution.
After his assessment, Bartelt recommended replacing the existing 1850 40 watt CFLs with 7 watt A-bulb LEDs. These changes would take place in the hotel’s guest rooms. He also recommended replacing 65 watt BR30 bulbs with our 9 watt BR30 LEDs. These bulbs are ideal for down-light applications, and their lifespan is nearly 10 times longer than the previously used CFLs.
“We recommended the EarthTronics LED lighting products because of their proven high quality and efficiency over the long life of their product,” said Bartlett.
By switching to our energy efficient lighting options, the GreenTree brand has realigned their overall goal: The hotel chain now seeks to adopt environmentally friendly practices… a win-win proposition.
“By simply changing light sources to new LED options, we’ve saved more than 80 percent on our lighting-related energy costs. We’ve also reduced maintenance time since we won’t have to change our lighting for (at least) five years. This allows us to concentrate on our guests, rather than worrying about changing light bulbs.”
Finding a source for multiple energy efficient LED bulb lighting solutions can be a challenge. EarthTronics’ product offerings provide options for substituting outdated lighting products with high-efficiency products, planning lighting options in new facilities or developing an energy savings program.
