Since our inception in 2007, we have been dedicated to equipping our customers with innovative, energy-efficient LED lighting products that provide a positive economic and environmental impact. Today, EarthTronics works with contractors, builders and lighting distributors to offer a range of LED lighting products that best fit a variety of applications, allowing us to be an industry leader. However, every business has to start somewhere, and our story has progressed immensely since opening our doors nine years ago. Let’s take a walk down memory lane, and reflect on how far our company has come (Just in time for #ThrowbackThursday), and where we see ourselves in the near future.
We were one of the first…
Since we started doing business, our goal was to bring energy-efficient products to market, something that was not readily available at the time. In 2008, we marketed our first product, which was a line of compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) that were compliant with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant.
During this time, large industry competitors offered CFLs with the lifespan of either 6,000 or 8,000 hours. In our eyes, this was simply not enough. By 2009, we produced CFLs with the lifespan of 12,000 hours—nearly double the lifespan of products available at that time.
By 2010, our LED general illumination products promised 50,000 hours of illumination; another perk that was a step above the rest. Our products were rapidly selling through retail and commercial channels due to their ingenuity.
We practice what we preach
Our first office was located within the Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center in Muskegon, Michigan. This office space was a part of the NextEnergy initiative implemented by (now former) Governor John Engler. The purpose of NextEnergy was to position the state of Michigan as an “International cluster of innovation in the development and commercialization of alternative-energy technologies.” By occupying an office in a building that was focused on sustainability and environmentally conscious initiatives, we certainly practiced what we preached. Although we have moved to office locations, we continue to use energy saving alternatives.
We’ve been there for our customers, even when times were tough
After the recession rocked the world in 2008, our employees rightfully lent a helping hand to businesses and retailers that were looking for long-term value in the midst of the catastrophic economic downturn. This time period allowed our employees to help those in financial distress, and therefore, broadened our clientele and overall outreach.
Adaptation is key for long-term success
At first, our target audience was consumers, but we noticed the growing need for quality CFL products that offered environmental stewardship and sustainability within the professional business segment. Retailers nationwide were interested in products that offered a longer lifespan and adhered to RoHS standards, so, we did exactly this.
Today, EarthTronics is focused on providing sustainable, high-quality lighting products to the professional market, who better understand added value and return on investment through higher quality lighting products. Overall, this shift in target audience has allowed our business to provide multipurpose, sustainable and higher-quality light bulbs and fixtures, which is something we are extremely proud of.
We’ve tripled in size
Our staff has grown immensely and includes three outside sales representatives, more than 30 independent sales agencies and 12 individuals who oversee customer service, marketing, utility market development, product management and operations. In addition to this, we have successfully leveraged third-party logistics for warehousing to keep costs low for our customers. Our approach and our team is able to provide world class (near) virtual operational functions.
So, what’s next?
We continue to add new, innovative LED light bulbs and fixtures for our customers to better serve their customers in energy efficiency lighting products. Some of our LED T8 and T5 products provide over 50% energy savings and are leading the product class in ballast compatibility and innovation. We were the first lighting manufacturer to offer a lamp that would work correctly on Emergency Back-up Fluorescent ballast systems and fluorescent dimming systems used in day light-harvesting or load-shedding applications. These unique lamps are priced to give our customers and end users quick ROI and long life.
Watch us grow! Our plans for expansion include new LED fixture types, higher efficiency LED lamps and the opening of new markets. If you would like to be part of our future drop us a line.
